Honcho shopping street has been set since Tadateru Matsudaira who is a sixth son of famous Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa made Takada castle as his resident.
This shopping street is a traditional business district in Takada Over 800 meters long with a variety of shops and other industries (over 100). Some of the shops has over 100 years history. The area has built up since the Edo period with many businesses traditionally passing from generation to generation.
